Therapeutic Foster Care
Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC) is a program of coordinated, community-based services for children or adolescents with emotional and/or behavioral disabilities.
It is an alternative to institutional, residential treatment or group care placements, or is an option to return children already in such placements to natural settings sooner than otherwise would be possible.
This level of care is for children and adolescents who require more intensive treatment and supervision than is usually found in a traditional or group foster care placement.
Children are placed in family home settings with specially trained foster families. Effective interventions for these youths are multidimensional and implemented in the home, at school and in the community.
Treatment strategies include behavioral parent training for Therapeutic Foster Care parents, skills training for youths, family support and therapy, school based interventions and other academic support, psychiatric and psychological consultation and medication management as needed.
In addition, case management, crisis intervention and evaluation are provided as needed.
Services and support provided by the program will be responsive to cultural, racial and ethnic differences of the children and families served.
